What is Akash (AKT)?

First published 26 September 2020, the day after mainnet. Expanded in October 2026 so a cloud lease is not described as AKT, and so launch inflation is not described as the current rate. Akash is its own chain, in the Cosmos family. Greg Osuri is the person most associated with Overclock Labs, the company that shipped it. Mainnet opened on 25 September 2020. AKT is the fee for leasing capacity on that marketplace, and the token people stake. A machine someone else is renting is not AKT. What is Cosmos (ATOM)? is a different chain in the same family.

Genesis created 100 million AKT. The project said 2.8 million were unlocked that day. Staking rewards mint more, so 100 million is the opening figure, not a ceiling. The launch note described those rewards near 54 percent a year and said a vote could change the rate. A dashboard figure is not that 2020 sentence. Staking is a lock and a queue, not a savings account. The early lock they described was measured in days. This page will not walk through a validator.

An Akash address is not an Ethereum address. The wrong network is still the wrong city. Nothing here is an instruction to lease a server, to stake, or to buy AKT.
