What is Pendle (PENDLE)?

The token of an app that splits a yield-bearing deposit into principal and yield. Neither piece is PENDLE.

First published 29 April 2021, the day after the token’s public sale. The app itself opened in June. Expanded in October 2026 so a principal token is not described as PENDLE, and so the old vote-lock is not described as still the way in. Pendle is software that takes a yield-bearing token, wraps it, and splits the position in two. One piece, the principal token, is meant to be redeemed for the underlying when that pool’s date arrives. The other, the yield token, is meant to collect the variable yield until that date and then be worth nothing. Neither piece is PENDLE. What is Lido (LDO)? is one place those yield-bearing receipts come from. What is Aave (AAVE)? is another. DeFi is software with rules you cannot call support about.

The token contract was deployed on 27 April 2021. The public sale was the next day. There is no round ceiling you can treat as finished. Emissions were a weekly schedule that decayed, and the project later described a small annual rate after that schedule. On 29 January 2026 new incentive rules replaced the fixed weekly budget. The contract is the count. A blog from 2021 is not.

The lock was paused. The receipt is not the vote

For years the vote was a lock called vePENDLE, up to two years, in the shape of the lock on Curve. What is Curve (CRV)? is that shape. On 29 January 2026 new vePENDLE locks were paused. The replacement, sPENDLE, is a receipt. The project set the wait to leave at 14 days. A page that still says to lock for vePENDLE is describing a finished gauge. Existing locks were treated as a boosted form of the new receipt until they ran out. A boost is a parameter. It is not a second coin you can send. Staking is a lock and a queue, not a savings account.

When a pool’s date passes, the principal token is a claim on the underlying, not a promise the underlying is still solvent. The yield token does not continue as a second asset. This page will not walk through the split.

The app has been deployed on other chains. A pool there is a different set of contracts. A copy of PENDLE that sat on a bridge called Multichain was stuck when that bridge halted in July 2023. It is not the Ethereum token. A bridge is extra software, not a tunnel. The wrong network is still the wrong city. Nothing here is an instruction to split a deposit, to lock PENDLE, or to buy it.
