What is XDC?

A 2019 trade-finance chain. The native coin is not the Ethereum token from the sale. Masternodes lock a large stake. There is no hard cap.

First published 22 July 2020. The chain had been live since 1 June 2019. Expanded in October 2026 so the Ethereum token from the sale is not described as the native coin, and so an old paper’s 100 billion is not described as the supply. XDC Network is a chain aimed at trade paperwork and settlement, started under the name XinFin by Atul Khekade and Ritesh Kakkad. XDC is the fee and the stake. It is not a shipping document, and it is not a warehouse.

Before mainnet, the sale was an Ethereum token called XDCe. A public sale ran in early 2018. Mainnet opened on 1 June 2019, and the path onto the chain was a one-for-one swap from that Ethereum token. XDCe you did not swap is still an Ethereum token. It is not native XDC. A site that says it can finish the 2019 swap, and asks for a recovery phrase, is not that window. A wallet signature is not a handshake.

37.5 billion was the genesis cut, not a ceiling

The genesis allocation was about 37.5 billion, cut down from a paper that had said 100 billion. That paper is not the live rule. New XDC is minted as a subsidy for masternodes, and fees can be burned. There is no hard cap in the current design. A market-cap line that multiplies a price by 100 billion is using the retired paper. The count that matters is the one the chain shows after mints and burns.

Blocks are produced by masternodes. The network publishes a signing set of 108, each locking 10 million XDC. A standby machine sits outside that set. The collateral is a lock. Spending it is how the node leaves the queue. This page will not walk through hosting one. Staking is a lock and a queue, not a savings account.

A native address is often written with an xdc prefix on the same forty hex characters an Ethereum address uses after 0x. The prefix does not make them the same chain. The wrong network is still the wrong city. Nothing here is an instruction to buy XDC or to run a masternode.
