A tokenized stock is a record, on a blockchain, that is supposed to stand for a share of a company. The useful question is what the record actually is. It might be a security entitlement: a legal claim, through a broker, on a real share sitting with a custodian. It might be a synthetic: a contract or a token that pays you if the share price moves, and pays you nothing if the company pays a dividend. It might be a share of a fund that holds the stock, which is the exchange-traded-product shape this site already described for bitcoin. Those three objects can share a ticker on a phone screen. They do not share a failure mode.
The SEC’s Innovation Exemption, dated 17 September 2026, is permission for certain venues to trade the first kind, under caps, for five years. Securitize’s 8 October launch is one company saying it has started selling that kind, on Solana, through its own broker-dealer. This page is the category. Those two URLs are the dated paper and the dated product. A spot ETF is a wrapper, not a new bitcoin is the fund version, for coins. Do not paste it onto Apple.
Three products, one caption
A security entitlement, in the US dialect of UCC Article 8, is a claim against a securities intermediary for a share the intermediary holds for you. You do not have the paper certificate. You have the intermediary’s obligation, and behind that a share that is supposed to be there one for one. Dividends and voting rights can travel with that claim if the product is built that way. A freeze, a sanctions hit, or a broker that cannot pay is a problem with the intermediary, not with “the blockchain being down”.
A price tracker does not carry those rights. Contracts for difference, stock perpetuals, and tokens that merely follow a print are bets on a number. The September order said synthetics that only track a price are outside it. A perpetual is a contract with no expiry, not a bigger coin is the crypto version of that bet. A stock perpetual is the same machine aimed at a share price. Liquidation, funding, and a venue database are the product. The company did not issue you a share.
A fund share is a third door. You own a slice of a vehicle. The vehicle owns the stocks, or it says it does. You do not withdraw Apple to a wallet. You sell the fund share through a broker. That can be a reasonable way to hold a basket. It is not tokenization of the share itself.
What the September order actually allowed
Release 34-106402 lets qualifying venues trade tokenized listed US stocks in pools without a full exchange registration, until 17 September 2031 unless the Commission changes its mind. The token is supposed to carry the same rights as the ordinary share, including dividends and voting. Pairings are limited. If someone other than the company tokenizes the stock, the company can object and stay off. Volume caps apply. Primary offerings are out. The order is an exemption, not a statute, and not a statement that every token with a company name in it is inside the exemption.
A venue still has to give notice. A filing that asks to use the order is an application. It is not the market being open. “Wall Street is on-chain” is the caption. The instrument is a five-year permission slip with a company veto.
What you hold when the token is on Solana
Solana is a notebook. A token there is an entry that some keys can move. The share, if this is an entitlement product, is still a securities position: a broker-dealer, a custodian, a transfer agent, eligibility rules for which countries may buy. Moving the token to a wallet you control does not delete the broker. It may mean you now hold a token the broker will only recognise if it is still in an account they can see, or it may mean the token itself is the entitlement and a random address can hold it. Read the offering. Those are different designs, and a screenshot of a balance will not tell you which one you bought.
The wrong network is still the wrong city. An Ethereum address is not a Solana address. A token that looks like Apple on one chain is not the entitlement on the chain the issuer named. Sending it “back” to a stockbroker who only credits the original token is how a share-shaped object becomes a stranded token.
Eligibility is part of the product. “Global” in a press release usually means eligible investors in named places, under securities law and sanctions. It does not mean every wallet on earth. A site that offers the same ticker with no questions is a different product, often the synthetic, sometimes a copy.
Lending the share is a separate promise
Some offerings say the underlying shares will not be lent out. That is a custody promise, and it matters, because a lent share is a share being used by someone else. It is not the same sentence as “you can later post the token as collateral in a lending app”. The second sentence is a plan for the token. It adds a smart-contract risk on top of the brokerage risk. DeFi is software with rules you cannot call support about. A token that can be approved away is a token, even when the marketing says share.
A convertible structure — a token that can later become a share on the company’s own register, if the company adopts that — is a door that is shut until the company opens it. Do not spend the dividend story and the conversion story as if both are already true for the ticker in your hand.
What to read before you treat it as the stock
Who is the intermediary. Whether you have dividend and voting rights, or a price. Which chain the token is on. Whether a transfer off the broker’s platform is a real holding or a one-way door. What happens if the company objects, the venue’s exemption ends, or your country is not on the list. Whether the shares are lent. The answers are in an offering document and a broker agreement. They are not in the icon.
What this guide will not do
It will not tell you to buy a tokenized share, a stock perpetual, or the ordinary stock. It will not rank venues. It will not walk through a wallet connect. It will not treat a Solana balance of a twelve-stock list as a brokerage account you can phone. If you wanted the share in the account you already have, this page is the wrong costume. If you wanted bitcoin, it is the wrong ticker.
Nothing here is an instruction to buy, sell, bridge, or collateralise any stock or token. A claim is a claim. The coin, if you also hold one, was never the share.
