First published 2 April 2020. Expanded in October 2026 so GNO is not described as the fee on Gnosis Chain. GNO is an Ethereum token. Martin Köppelmann is the person most associated with the company. The only mint was the sale. The supply is fixed at 10 million. A Dutch auction on 24 April 2017 sold about 417,000 GNO, roughly 4 percent, and raised 12.5 million dollars. The company kept the rest. Most of that pile was locked for a year. An unlock was coins that already existed. There is no second cap and no inflation schedule.
The 2017 paper also described a second token, OWL, minted by locking GNO, to pay fees inside the company’s own apps. That is the 2017 design. It is not the fee on Gnosis Chain. Gnosis Chain is a separate network. Its docs say fees are paid in xDAI, a token meant to stay near one US dollar. GNO is the token used around staking and votes on that chain. Sending GNO does not pay the fee. A prediction market was the original product. A market’s outcome token is not GNO.
GNO on Ethereum is not a Gnosis Chain transaction. The wrong network is still the wrong city. ETH pays the fee on Ethereum. The multisig wallet that grew up beside this project is a different product. It is not GNO. Nothing here is an instruction to stake, to lock GNO, or to buy it.
