What is Immutable (IMX)?

The token of an NFT rollup. The cap is 2 billion, after a 100-for-1 split. A 0x address here is not Ethereum.

First published 5 November 2021, the day trading opened. Expanded in October 2026 so a 100-for-1 split is not described as a new pile of value, and so a withdrawal is not described as free. Immutable X is a rollup for minting and trading NFTs, built with StarkWare. Robbie Ferguson is the person most associated with the company. IMX is the token. An NFT on the rollup is a receipt in that system. An NFT is a receipt, not a painting in a vault. Holding the IMX token is not holding the NFT. Ethereum without the jargon is where the proofs are posted. What is Starknet (STRK)? is a different rollup from the same proof family. A balance here is not a balance there.

On 22 October 2021, before trading, the project split each pre-launch unit into 100. The cap went from 20 million to 2 billion. A holder’s share of the pile did not change. A small price is that split. Trading opened on 5 November 2021. The cap is 2 billion. A price times 2 billion counts the whole mint, including tokens that were still locked. An unlock was coins that already existed.

The project’s sales line was no gas for minting and trading on the rollup. A withdrawal back to Ethereum is a proof posted on Ethereum, and ETH pays that data. A 0x address on the rollup is not an Ethereum address, and the IMX token on Ethereum is not an NFT sitting in the rollup. The wrong network is still the wrong city. A bridge is extra software, not a tunnel. Staking IMX, where the app offers it, is a lock. Staking is a lock and a queue, not a savings account. This page will not walk through a mint, a proof, or a withdrawal. Nothing here is an instruction to bridge, to stake, or to buy IMX.
