First published 10 January 2023, the day after the public distribution started. Expanded in October 2026 so a 2020 XRP balance is not described as a balance of FLR, and so Songbird is not folded into the ticker. Flare is its own chain. FLR pays the fee. The design is to read data from other chains and from outside, and to let contracts on Flare use that data. Ripple, XRP, and RippleNet — three names, two kinds of thing is the XRP page. Flare is not the XRP Ledger. A token on one will not arrive on the other.
The chain was created on 14 July 2022, with 100 billion FLR on the books. The public distribution waited until 9 January 2023. It used a snapshot of XRP balances on 12 December 2020. Holding XRP that day did not put FLR in the same wallet. If an exchange held the XRP, the exchange held the claim. The first payment was 15 percent of a public allocation of about 28.5 billion, at a published rate of 0.151095 FLR per XRP in the snapshot. The other 85 percent was then paid monthly for 36 months, after a vote, to people who had wrapped FLR. That window has run. A page that says the airdrop is about to start is describing 2023.
Wrapped FLR is a receipt. Songbird is another chain
Wrapping FLR into WFLR makes a receipt. The monthly payments and the oracle delegation used that receipt. Sending the receipt sends the claim. It is not a second coin with its own cap. Delegating it points the position at a data provider in the Flare Time Series Oracle. The reward is a parameter. Staking is a lock and a queue, not a savings account. This page will not walk through the delegation.
Songbird is the canary network, a separate chain with its own coin, SGB. It used the same family of XRP snapshot and it is not FLR. An airdrop of SGB is not a balance on Flare.
A later vote changed how the genesis supply was counted. The live figure is the chain’s count after that vote, the monthly payments, and any later mint. A price times 100 billion is the number from July 2022, not the float on the first distribution day. A Flare address starts with 0x, and the chain id is 14. An Ethereum address with the same hex is a different city. The wrong network is still the wrong city. Nothing here is an instruction to wrap FLR, to claim a distribution, or to buy it.
