Layer 2

Also called L2

A network that settles back to a parent chain, usually to make fees cheaper.

A layer 2 (L2) processes transactions off the main chain, then posts a summary or proof back. The pitch is lower fees and faster confirmation. The catch is extra software, extra bridges, and extra ways to send to the wrong place.

An L2 address is not the same as the parent chain’s address even when they look similar. Check the network before you send.
