Blockchain.com: wallet, exchange, and explorer in one brand

A long-running Bitcoin brand that mixes a web wallet, an exchange, and a block explorer. Those are different jobs.

Blockchain.com

3.3 / 5

The explorer is a public lookup tool. The wallet and exchange are company products. Use the name carefully, enable real two-factor authentication, and do not treat a web login as cold storage.

Pros

  • The explorer is genuinely useful for looking up Bitcoin transactions
  • A familiar brand if you have been around Bitcoin since the 2010s
  • Supports more than one asset in the account products

Cons

  • The name collides with the technology, which still confuses beginners
  • A browser wallet is a phishing and malware surface
  • Interest or earn features are a separate risk from “just looking up a tx”
  • Security3.1
  • Ease of Use4.0
  • Features3.8
  • Fees3.2
  • Support3.0
  • Value3.3

How we tested

We judge the public product split — explorer versus account — as it is commonly misunderstood, plus the usual custodial and web-wallet risks. This is not an endorsement of a particular 2026 feature set.

In this article

First published 23 April 2020; rewritten August 2026. The old page was a short company blurb. The important correction is in the name: Blockchain.com is not “the blockchain”. It is a firm that has run a Bitcoin explorer for a long time and also offers wallet and exchange products.

A block explorer lets anyone paste a transaction id or address and see what the network recorded. That is a lookup, like a public register. A wallet holds keys or an account that claims to. An exchange converts between cash and crypto. Mixing them in one brand is convenient. It is also how people learn the wrong lesson: that logging into a website is the same as using Bitcoin.

If you use the account

Treat it like any other company: unique password, authenticator app, scepticism toward support chats. If the product can reset your access with email, it is not the same as a recovery phrase you wrote on paper. Withdraw a test amount before you need to.

If you only need the explorer

You do not need an account to look up a Bitcoin transaction. Prefer the official site over random Google ads. Explorers show public data. They do not tell you whether a payment is “safe”, only whether it was recorded.
